FREE CAT SPAY/NEUTER

Paws-Ability has started a new program to spay/neuter stray and feral cats to reduce the euthanasia rate at the animal shelter. Cats that are not spay/neutered are very prolific and can have up to 4 litters a year with an average of 4 kittens per litter. The shelter has no choice but to euthanize cats that can't be adopted because they are essentially wild. Their adoption rate for dogs and cats has risen dramatically since the Sheriff's Department take-over of the shelter but there is still a very high euthanasia rate for cats because a lot are wild. Paws-Ability is starting in two zip codes, 28467 and 28469. We would like to do all of Brunswick county if we can. Applications for the vouchers can be found on our website www.Paws-Ability.org. Any donations to keep this program going forward will be gratefully accepted.

Happy New Year!

We want to thank all of you - a very active, supportive and caring membership base. We were able to do wonderful things in 2012 with  money disbursed to rescue groups, a lot of cats spayed/neutered and a wonderful crew of folks working tirelessly at the Animal Protective Services Shelter. We're looking forward to a great year ahead with, hopefully, a reduction in the animal euthanasia rate in Brunswick County. We've seen an adoption rate on the rise for dogs and cats, but the euthanasia rate for cats has remained high due to the prolific nature of cats and the fact that so many are free roaming without a specific home and family to 'fix' them. We are going to attempt to make changes to that dynamic in 2013. Look forward to an announcement by our president in early 2013 on that subject. I'll post some of the photos from our last two events.........the Bicycle Poker Run and Red Toe Day.
